3 Star Anti-Snap Locks

For anyone that's had a break-in in their area, they will have probably heard the words "anti-snap locks". Perhaps they've been recommended by the Police attending the scene or your local locksmith. The reason is because they are the most effective way to prevent break-ins.
Burglars on the prowl are generally looking for big value items like your car, but first they need to gain access to your property. They do this by first assessing which properties with a desirable car have breakable locks. Anti-theft locks all have a star rating engraved on the front known as a kite mark, locks without these markings are most likely easy to snap. It's also worth noting that locks that aren't close to flush with the handle are even more attractive to burglars as they are much easier to manipulate.

First the burglar will remove or destroy the handle using large pliers or mole grips. Standard uPVC door handles are hollow and brittle, applying enough force will break them. Then they will use their large pliers or in some cases a "snapping bar" (a purpose built tool for snapping locks) to snap the lock in two. Once the broken piece is removed they simply use a small piece of metal to unlock the mechanism and they're in.

Anti snap locks are useful here because they have a reinforced center to prevent snapping. In some cases they have sacrificial end pieces that will break away leaving a dead end. In either case the burglar will be forced to abandon their attempt.
High security handles are another good way to keep your home safe and preferred in a lot of cases.

High security handles look and feel like uPVC
handles and come in array of colours, but unlike traditional handles they are made of thick, solid steel and completely surround your lock. while anti snap locks have some visual clues that tell burglars to keep away, its possible that they may miss it, make an unsuccessful attempt to break in and run away having caused some damage. while you may not lose your car, you will still need a locksmith to repair the damage. High security handles on the other hand are a very clear visual sign that attempting to break in will be difficult, time consuming and loud.
If you have any concerns about crime in your area, any of the options mentioned in this article could greatly improve your homes security.
